The Parent Advisory Council combines the traditional roles of the School Board and P & F Executive with the broad aim of supporting the Principal’s goal of providing the best possible learning environment for our children.
In all schools, a strong and collaborative relationship between parents and the school is paramount to vibrant and strong school community where we are all working towards providing the best possible learning environment for our children.
At Our Lady Star of the Sea Terrigal, we have been fortunate to have two strong and dedicated parent groups, the School Board and P & F, dedicated to achieving that goal. During 2015, the decision was made to streamline the roles that both groups have within the school community. The main reason for this change was to optimise the efficiency and benefits each group brings to the school community.
The two parent bodies within the school are now a Parent Advisory Council and P & F.
Aim of the Parent Advisory Council
The primary aim of the Parent Council is to support the Principal’s goal of providing the best possible learning environment for our children.
This is achieved by having dynamic free-ranging discussions and committed outcomes. Any goals, objectives, projects will be communicated back to the whole school community via the P & F meetings.
The Parent Advisory Council will meet once a term and all members of the Parent Council agree to:
- attend all meetings
- volunteer for action items
- attend school functions where required
- advise and support the principal in serving the school community.
Parent Advisory Council positions
The Parent Council will consist of approximately 12 members including:
- Current P & F executive
- Councillors
- Ex-officio members – the parish priest and principal are ex-officio members of the Parent Council.
The Councilor positions are self-elected annual positions. Positions will be advertised through the School Newsletter.
